Connect your bank
Typing in every fuel stop is how bookkeeping becomes the thing you do at midnight in January. Connecting your bank means the transactions show up on their own, and your job becomes deciding what they were for.
Bank feeds are Growth and up. You’ll need the banking.view permission —
Owners and Admins have it by default.
Before you start
Have your online banking credentials handy. LawnLedger never sees them: the connection runs through Plaid, which is the same service most banking apps use, and LawnLedger only receives the transaction list.
Connect an account
Open Banking
In the sidebar, click Books, then Banking.
Start the connection
Click Connect a bank. Plaid opens in a window on top of LawnLedger.
Find your bank and sign in
Search for your bank, then sign in the way you normally would — including any two-factor code it asks for.
Choose which accounts to share
Pick the accounts you actually use for the business. There’s no benefit to connecting a personal account, and a lot of noise.
Come back to LawnLedger
The window closes on its own. Your accounts appear in Banking with their balances, and transactions start arriving.
What arrives, and when
The first sync pulls recent history — usually somewhere between 30 and 90 days depending on the bank. After that, new transactions arrive automatically.
A transaction showing up is not the same as it being categorized. See Transactions and categorization for what to do with them.
Tips
- Connect the card you buy materials with, not just the checking account. Most of the categorization work is card transactions.
- One connection per bank covers all the accounts at that bank. You don’t need to repeat it per account.
Troubleshooting
The connection says it needs attention. Banks periodically force a re-login, especially after a password change. Open Books → Banking and click Reconnect on the account.
Transactions stopped arriving. Same cause, usually. Check for a reconnect prompt on the account first.
My bank isn’t listed. Plaid covers most US institutions but not all. You can still add transactions by hand, or import them.
